Old Navy: Jersey Cross-Front Dress

I bought the blue version of this dress last summer and I LOVED it. Crazy comfortable, easy to move in and I got a ton of compliments on it. I was sad that it was on clearance and I couldn't get it in other colors before summer was over. I was pretty excited when I saw it come back in their spring offerings online and that it came back in black! I nabbed one for wedding wear and I can't wait to toss it into the wedding clothes rotation. Note that the V is a bit low for my tastes on me so I wear a higher cami with it and it's perfect!

Shabby Apple: Cleopatra

A few weeks ago I was invited to a friend's wedding. I was super excited to be a GUEST for once! The day of the wedding I was all set to rock out my Badgley Mischka LBD and then I talked to the bride. Her photographer (friend's stepdad) told her that he'd be an extra $500 to cover the reception and started throwing all of these last minute charges at her. So they ended up opting to only use him for the ceremony and formal pictures. I know I am a bit of a pushover but I also couldn't let my friend have bad pictures from her wedding. So I sadly put away the LBD and pulled out my newest Shabby Apple purchase (thanks to Groupon!) which would be a bit more friendly to the crazy positions I get in during a day AND was a bit more formal than my normal wear for a wedding.

The Cleopatra was the perfect hybrid dress for me. I was able to look guest-like but still able to move around quite easy due to the cotton fabric and length. I highly recommend it for more formal affairs or for those ladies out there wanting to look a bit more elegant at weddings without hampering your shooting style.

What I Wear: Merona Scoop Neck Dress

Readers, I have a confession to make... I wore a dress to shoot in, despite swearing I'd never do it. We've had some crazy high temperatures here in Ohio the past few weeks - and even before we were in the upper 80's to 90's we've had some humidity that is just unbearable. So unbearable that in fact that even wearing my beloved gauchos seemed impossible. I had just got this dress from Target and thought well heck, I'll try it. While there were definitely times I wished I had on pants, I have to confess that it was VERY comfortable to shoot in and cool! I thought about wearing shorts beneath them but that'd kind of defeat the point of wearing a dress by adding more layers. While I don't think this will always be a go-to outfit, I must admit that I felt more professional being in a dress. These dresses are sold out online but you can still find them in some Target stores. I have this dress in coral, brown AND black - that's how much I love it. VERY comfy and you can still wear a normal bra with it which is a huge selling point for me. It can also easily be worn in the colder months with a cardigan!

If this is something that appeals to you, keep your eye out at your local Target as I HIGHLY recommend this dress!!!

Target: Gaucho Pants

Confession: I sometimes rock the unstylish look at weddings - especially in the summer. I wear a pair of gaucho pants (which are now pretty much out of style) that I picked up at Kohl's last summer that are rayon, light and SO wonderful to wear in the summer. They dry fast (bonus for sweat and for rain) and are ridiculously comfortable. They aren't the most stylish thing... but sometimes comfort wins. Someone recently asked what I wear for a non-beach outdoor wedding and I sent her these from Target as they are the closest thing I can find to what I wear currently. In the past, I've also worn dressy capri pants (usually from Old Navy) but I find that these are easier to move in and a lot lighter!

What I Wear: Shoes: Radiance Sandals

Every year when I go to WPPI I have the same repeating problem, blisters - and lots of them. I adore cute shoes, but I've found out that rarely do cute + Vegas go well together - until I found these sandals at Kohl's. I wore them on the trip there. I wore them the first day. I wore them the second day. I wore them just about EVERY day after finding out that they were cute AND comfortable! I also had ZERO blisters and the first time I wore them was when I flew out!

While I wouldn't wear these for the super formal weddings, they are dressy enough (with a proper pedicure of course) to wear to most summer weddings and are insanely comfortable. I even like them more than my Softspots, and that's saying a lot. They are also SUPER quiet when walking in them. I'm not kidding when I say they're like walking on sponges. They're somewhat bouncy and super comfy. Your feet will thank me, even if you just wear these for the summer.

What I Wear: The Limited Radiating Ruffle Tank

While I typically wear black, every now and again I like to mix it up with gray. I wear this top from The Limited with a black cardigan and it's just frilly enough to snazz it up a bit.

What I Wear: Shoes

One of the hardest things for me to find to wear to weddings was shoes. I am a bit of a shoe freak so just any shoe wouldn't do. I know that many wear tennis shoes to shoot weddings in but for me, no matter how much the tennis shoe is dolled up, it's still a tennis shoe and it's not fit to wear tennis shoes to a wedding. I tried the Croc flats (two different styles) and both times I ended up with blisters before the end of the day. My first season shooting, I tried a million different shoes and each one was eliminated from the running for various reasons - usually because at the end of the day my feet and legs were still hurting.

Last May, I came across Softspots' Verdent shoes and I am so glad that I did, I've gone through two pairs now and I LOVE these shoes. They are comfortable beyond words, I no longer come home and immediately put my feet up. They have a bit of a heel, so I don't have to worry about hemming my pants (and I'll admit, I'm a heel kind of girl). The big seller is that they are virtually silent when walking and that's a big plus when it comes to shooting in churches that have marble floors. I can't rave enough about these shoes. They are cute, comfy and perfect for me. The downside? They have been discontinued. They are still able to be found online but it isn't easy (I recommend Google).

If you want this shoe and can't find the Verdent in your size, I recommend searching for the Softspots Star. While it's not in their current lineup, it is available in quite a few places on the internet. The only difference between the two shoes is that the Verdent has a 1.25" heel while the Star has a 1.50" heel.

Ann Taylor: The Perfect Wedding Tee

This past week I was shopping at Ann Taylor and as soon as I laid eyes on this t-shirt I said that it was the perfect wedding t-shirt. The detailing of the pearls, ribbons and rhinestones on this shirt are just enough to dress up your everyday t-shirt without being too showy for a wedding. This shirt looks great on its own or layered under a suit jacket or cardigan. If black isn't your 'thing' at weddings, there are other color options as well.
